On October 18 the Elks Performing Arts Center’s Crystal Hall will ring with song, dance, and laughter as Northland Cares presents its second annual Concert of Compassion, a special fundraiser celebrating local talent while supporting a worthy cause. With an eclectic lineup ranging from Broadway favorites to folk harmonies and a cappella innovation, the evening promises to be an unforgettable showcase.

Northland Cares, a nonprofit committed to providing comprehensive support services to those living with HIV and AIDS in northern Arizona, has long been a cornerstone of compassion in the region. The Concert of Compassion embodies that mission, combining entertainment with philanthropy in a way that uplifts performers and audience alike.

Audience members will get sneak peek of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee courtesy of the Yavapai College Performing Arts Department. Known for its quirky characters and hilarious scenarios, this Tony Award–winning musical takes the seemingly ordinary spelling bee and transforms it into a riotous, heartfelt competition. With local actors bringing their comedic timing and musical energy to the stage, the preview will offer just enough of the show to leave audiences eager for the full production later this season.

Also gracing the Concert of Compassion is Una Voce, an auditioned women’s choir based in Prescott and directed by the talented Arlene Hardy. This ensemble is celebrated for its breathtaking performances and dedication to vocal excellence. Comprised of women aged 18 and older, Una Voce has built a reputation for sold-out concerts that highlight the expressive beauty of the female voice. Their participation in the fundraiser underscores the group’s commitment not just to music, but also to community engagement.

No concert would be complete without a dash of the unexpected, and Prescott Valley Performing Arts will provide just that with a preview of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Show. With its zany characters, unforgettable songs, and over-the-top energy, Rocky Horror has long held a special place in the hearts of audiences worldwide. The preview promises to capture the flamboyant flair and outrageous fun of the full production that has made the musical a cultural phenomenon for decades.

Shifting gears from theatre to folk music, longtime Prescott residents Tom and Christa Agostino will bring warmth and intimacy to the stage. Since moving from Los Angeles in 2002 the duo has performed throughout Arizona, opening for well known acts like Tom Chapin, Dustbowl Revival and Acoustic Eidolon. Their heartfelt harmonies and storytelling lyrics celebrate tradition while forging new musical connections. The Agostinos’ presence is a reminder of the enduring power of folk music to inspire and connect.

The evening will also feature the stirring sound of Womansong, a vocal ensemble directed by Amy VanWinkle. Specializing in folk, modern and sacred music performed entirely a cappella, Womansong is known for its lush harmonies and adventurous repertoire. Based in Prescott, the group delights in pushing boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in the beauty of ensemble singing. The concert will highlight not only the group’s musical talent but its shared spirit of collaboration and innovation as well.

Broadway energy returns with an excerpt from the hit musical Footloose, performed by Footlight Productions. This beloved show tells the story of a city teenager who moves to a town where dancing is forbidden, inspiring change through the liberating joy of movement. With its irresistible music and energetic choreography, the preview offers a taste of the exuberance and rebellion that define Footloose.

Rounding out the evening is Juliet LaPointe, a performer whose versatility has captivated audiences across the region. Described in the press as “a cross between Beverly Sills and Bette Midler,” LaPointe combines vocal prowess with stage presence in a way that few can match. Whether she is belting a Broadway showstopper or delivering a heartfelt ballad, her performance will be a highlight of the evening, showcasing the depth of local talent in Northern Arizona.

While the performances promise to dazzle, the heart of the evening lies in its purpose. Proceeds from the Concert of Compassion will directly benefit the Northland Cares mission of providing medical case management, prevention education, behavioral health support and advocacy for those living with HIV. In a world where stigma and health disparities still exist, Northland Cares serves as a lifeline for many in the community, ensuring access to compassionate care and vital resources.

Priority seats and General Admission seats are available. Priority seats will include a Northland Cares gift bag, a raffle ticket, and reserved seats in the front two rows.

The Concert of Compassion will present at Elks Performing Arts Center Crystal Hall on October 18, 7pm. For tickets and more call (928) 756-2844.
